Rupert Murdoch Claims Rights to Bag of Weed [Family Guy]
Just about everyone celebrating 4/20 today got the pre-party started by watching last night’s episode of Family Guy. While this episode could have easily ended up as more pothead fodder, Seth McFarlane and his creative team put together some sharp commentary on marijuana regulation throughout the hilarity.
The first act, which is just a Simpsons-esque nonsensical intro to segue into the actual story, centers around Peter disposing of Quagmire’s pet cat after he turns into one of those annoying people who love their pets too much. Peter and Brian then get pulled over, but the police are willing to let them go despite the mess of blood, until a bag of sweet cheeba falls out of Brian’s pocket and lands them in jail.Infuriated, Brian decides to become a marijuana activist, citing that marijuana was outlawed due to a smear campaign William Randolph Hearst set forth against hemp manufacturers in the 1930s to save his paper companies. They also put together their own version of an anti-drug PSA classic, which I’ll put up as soon as I can find video.
What we do have video of is the hilarious song and dance routine proclaiming that everything is better with a bag of weed. Throughout this ridiculous bit, Stewie and Brian ponder why pot is seen to be as wrong as gay-bashing, Michael Jackson’s pedophilia, or watching The Rocketeer. I’m also guessing that there won’t be any more gratuitous scenes of bongs being played as xylophones on network television any time soon.
