Carlos Lehder is one of the co-founders of the Medellin Cartel in Colombia who was responsible for 85% of the cocaine that was transported into the USA during the ‘70’s and ‘80’s. A mad man megalomaniac who purchased an island in the Bahamas due to his irascible, paranoid nature and his belief that


his island would be ground zero for the greatest cocaine empire in the world. He is depicted in the movie Blow as the man who betrays the main character George Jung and cuts him out to strike a deal with Richard Parile “the California connection”. Along with Jung they revolutionized the drug industry in a matter of months, using small private planes to smuggle in the cocaine from Pablo Escobar in Colombia. His method involved bribery of political officials, rampant violence, murder, and betrayal. At his peak, his island would receive 300 kilos of cocaine every hour of every day, his wealth at the time is estimated to be in the high billions. Eventually, Lehder was captured in the Colombian jungles and was extradited to the US where he is still held.
