Indian Jewelry: TDR Band of the Week

MY working theory is: the more oppressive an environment, the more extreme the reaction is to it. Hence – Indian Jewelry – a band from Houston Texas since 2002.
We come from a city full of motherf&ckers. Bad motherf&ckers. They are part of this too. On this tour the band will be Erika Thrasher, Tex Kerschen, Richard Durham, Mary Sharpe, and Rodney Rodriguez.
There are synths, piled on in dense layers, pulsing, groaning and grinding, a swooping noise used as rhythm, drums that sound like they are coming from next door, and what I can only guess is a horrendously distorted guitar being hit with something. It all gets stirred together into loping, lurching groove, and up pops the broken tape-recorder vocals. david christensen, fake jazz, 2003.
