Rehab center murders continue in Cuidad Juarez, Mexico [Depravity]
Cuidad Juarez, Mexico is of course an epicenter of the Mexican drug war, but cartels there are now targeting drug rehabilitation centers for revenge killings, ushering in a new level of depravity in the America-caused war. Under the current arrangement, billions of dollars in U.S. guns and greenbacks flow south and drugs flow north, caught in between:
10 patients … nine men and one woman, [who] were killed late on Tuesday as they finished praying before going to bed. ... A similar attack took place … earlier in September, when hooded gunmen killed 17 patients at another clinic … [that] attack followed assaults on at least four other rehabilitation clinics in the city during the last 13 months, according to news reports. In one attack last year, gunmen killed eight patients and wounded six.
Officials have closed the city’s remaining rehab centers, which house former gang members, gang debtors and serve as potent symbols in the politico-military battle against terrorist drug cartels like the Sonaloans. [LATimes, Latin American Herald Tribune]
