Gilles Peterson is a British record collector, tastemaker, and record label owner whose show “Worldwide” is absolutely essential if you like music, period. He recently put together a history of hip-hop mix that takes you from the poetry of Gil Scott Heron to the mad rapping of Kool Keith to the wild improvisations of Madlib.
I rarely speak hyperbole but if someone asked me to give them one reason why they should care about hip-hop, I would refer them to this mix. Masterful.
