Performing Mexican drug ballads a jailable offense?

The Clipse should never ever hang out in Mexico, or else they will die. The Mexican ruling party have proposed legislation that would hand out three-year jail sentences to musicians who perform songs that glorify trafficking drugs. There’s actually a word for these songs – narcocorridos – and they’ve resulted in grisly violence between drug cartels and musicians for several years now. Lead singer of K-Paz De La Sierra, Sergio Gomez was kidnapped after a 2007 concert and was tortured, strangled, and riddled with cigarette burns before his body was found in the outskirts of Morelia. Gomez is one of over a dozen Mexican musicians who were murdered between 2006 and 2008. That’s some real gangster shit right there. [guardian.co.uk]
