the dope report

Sex Pistols' Steve Jones fondly remembers Manager Malcolm McLaren: he got me a hooker and some heroin

“I was upset when I heard the news, as I’ve always had a soft spot for Malcolm. I knew him since I was 17 before the Pistols formed—I used to drive him around in Vivienne Westwood’s car to the tailors in London in the days of the ‘Let It Rock’ clothing store. Malcolm was definitely the Brian Epstein of punk—without him it wouldn’t have happened the way it did. I stayed friends with him throughout the years despite some of our differences. He came on ‘Jonesy’s Jukebox’ a couple of years ago, and that’s a good memory. But my fondest memory of Malcolm, and I loved the guy, was his birthday gift to me when I turned 21—he got me a hooker and some heroin.”

—Statement from Steve Jones, 4/9/2010 about Malcolm McLaren, who passed away yesterday

Ecstacy, Speed, Heroin-fueled group therapy = FAIL

The BBC reports today on some whacko German therapist who dosed a group of patients with allegedly heroin, speed & ecstasy all at once. Two died, a third is in a coma:

The doctor who was arrested admitted handing out the drugs in order to expand the patients’ consciousness, he claims to offer “help with spiritual crises” and police say his wife also took part in the therapy session, ...

The sad thing is, MDMA alone has helped PTSD-sufferers talk it out all emo-like. Charlatans like this guy this won’t help that needed therapy achieve any type of legitimacy. [BBC]

RIP Dash Snow: Rich Heroin Fucktard

(Above: Look at this fucking hipster poster boy, Snow)

The New York Times today has a memorable piece on some dead junkie named Dash Snow. Apparently people care because he was rich and made art.

[Snow] was East Side royalty, the discontented scion of the famous de Menil family

...

[What] distinguished Mr. Snow from working-class addicts like William S. Burroughs, Herbert Huncke — and himself. “It was like his money never ran out,” Mr. Walls said. “When it came to doing drugs, he could do these marathons for days and days on end. In my day, in Huncke’s day, in Burroughs’s day, when we wanted a fix, we had to go work — we couldn’t just sit around getting high for three straight weeks.”

...

By the end of the viewing, there were dozens of mourners milling on the street — friends, admirers, pillars of a certain downtown scene. There were stories, reminiscences, tears, then everyone went to eat at Lucien, a French bistro on First Street and First Avenue. Mr. Snow’s body, meanwhile, was taken to New Jersey and cremated.

Dead at 28, he leaves a child behind. Commence with the eye-rolling.

Authorities announced Saturday a massive heroin bust in the Bronx, where dealers were moving millions of dollars in dope inside Build-A-Bear dolls. ... The drugs were packaged in tiny glassine bags branded with names like Barack Obama, Swine Flu and Crime 360, a nod to a detective series on A&E. ... State, local and federal law enforcement officers seized 33 pounds of heroin with a street value of about $33 million. All the heroin was made in America, authorities said.

Buy American, and Americans do work, son!

So This Is What a Shot-Up Bentley Looks Like

On a downtown stretch of the 101 Freeway, a storm of bullets riddled a $100,000 Bentley, showering the lanes with shell casings and glass, and leaving the driver mortally wounded. ... A search warrant affidavit filed by a Los Angeles Police Department detective says investigators learned that the dead man, 25-year-old Jose Luis Macias, might have been selling drugs here for the notorious Arellano Felix cartel. ... In recent years, the death and imprisonment of key leaders have weakened the Arellano Felix cartel, but it remains a fierce combatant for drug smuggling routes from Tijuana into Southern California and across the United States law enforcement officials say. ... the cartel brings cocaine, heroin, marijuana and methamphetamine into the state and acts as a wholesaler for drug-dealing street gangs.

In His Past Life, Don Draper Advertised for Heroin [History of Drug Ads]

As this ridiculous war on drugs continues, feds and bureaucrats are getting mad paid while the economy gets sucked into the 12th dimension of Hell. Meanwhile, all these tasty drugs flow in unregulated without a tariff in sight.

Lest we forget that America is the triple O.G. dope dealer of all time? Aside from the fact that pusher-men like Pfizer and Ortho are currently thriving, we used to slang packs and advertise the shit out of it on the daily. Check out this vintage ad gallery courtesy of Pill Talk, and go way back when we made a reputable dime off cocaine cola and heroin cough drops. And Quaaludes.

All this gallery does is illustrate the fact that we need to get back into the dope game instead of battling it. A war on drugs is just a war on our nation’s collective paper stack.
