Artist on the rise : Joy Orbison
Peter O’Grady aka Joy Orbison is making waves in the dubstep world with just a few 12 inches and mixes under his belt, showcasing tracks that straddle the line between uplifiting ambient house and Burial-esque urban dystopic soundscapes. His narrative on the road to becoming an in-demand producer follows an unusual paradigm: “cool older uncle” introduces him to underground music – in this case, drum n bass, 2 step and garage – at the tender age of 13, picks up DJ’ing and making beats on low-rent Fruity Loops software, and within a few years cutting his teeth in his personal studio emerges as an artist that’s on every critic’s “artist to watch” list.
